Juneteenth Across the Sound: Your 2026 Celebration Guide for Seattle, Tacoma & Beyond

Happy Juneteenth, Washington! Today, Friday, June 19, 2026, we celebrate freedom, resilience, and the enduring spirit of the African Diaspora. At the Washington State Coalition of African Community Leaders (WSCACL), we believe our strength lies in our connection. Whether you are looking to honor our history, support Black-owned businesses, or simply enjoy a beautiful day with family, the Puget Sound is alive with energy today.

This isn't just a holiday; it’s a moment for civic engagement in Seattle and beyond. It’s a day to reflect on our progress and the work still ahead in building generational wealth and community leadership.

Here is your ultimate guide to where you can show up, stand out, and celebrate today and through the weekend.

Seattle: The Heart of the Celebration

Seattle is buzzing with multiple anchor events that offer something for everyone, from high-energy block parties to soulful park festivals.

1. Seattle Juneteenth at "The Yard" (Downtown)

If you want that high-energy, college-campus vibe, head straight to The Yard at The Union. This HBCU-themed block party is the place to be for music, networking, and pure joy.

  • Time: 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM
  • Location: Downtown Seattle
  • Highlights: Powered by PACE, this event features local DJs, community organizations, and a "yard" atmosphere that honors the legacy of Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
  • Cost: FREE

2. 10th Annual Summer of Soul Freedom Festival (Jimi Hendrix Park)

Located in the historic Central District, this is one of the most iconic gatherings of the year. Hosted by the Africatown Community Land Trust, it’s a beautiful blend of culture and commerce.

  • Time: 12:00 PM – 8:00 PM
  • Location: Jimi Hendrix Park (2400 S Massachusetts St)
  • Highlights: Over 80 vendors, a massive food court, and a headline performance by the legendary Marsha Ambrosius.
  • Cost: FREE

3. "The Sound of Connection" at NAAM & Judkins Park

For a family-friendly atmosphere that combines history with modern fun, visit the Northwest African American Museum (NAAM).

  • Time: 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM
  • Location: Judkins Park & NAAM Campus
  • Highlights: Interactive exhibits, live local entertainment, and a special FIFA watch party for the sports fans in the community.
  • Cost: FREE

Tacoma: The State's Largest Gathering

A sunny outdoor festival at the Haub Family Field in Tacoma, featuring large crowds, performance stages, and a variety of vendor booths. The backdrop shows the iconic architecture of the LeMay - America’s Car Museum and the surrounding Washington landscape.

If you are looking for the biggest scale event in the state, you must head south to Tacoma. Juneteenth WA has grown into a massive regional destination at the LeMay Car Museum.

  • Location: Haub Family Field at LeMay – America’s Car Museum
  • Highlights: This year’s lineup is incredible, featuring Crystal Aikin, Lyfe Jennings, and Erica Campbell.
  • Economic Empowerment: The event focuses heavily on "A Road to Economic Freedom," providing resources for small business owners and community leadership training.
  • Prayer Breakfast: If you missed the morning prayer breakfast, the festival grounds remain open all afternoon for food, music, and community resources.

North & Eastside: Local Community Vibes

You don't have to go to the city centers to find a great celebration. Our partners across the Sound are hosting fantastic events:

  • Edmonds Waterfront Center: From 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM, enjoy a family-friendly gathering with views of the Sound. Perfect for those looking for a slightly more relaxed pace.
  • Kenmore Town Square: Stop by between 3:00 PM – 7:00 PM during the local farmers market for special Juneteenth performances and Black-owned vendor spotlights.
  • Bellevue Crossroads Park: A free, all-ages event featuring local performers and community booths.

Community leaders from WSCACL gathered at an 'Africans on the Eastside' event, showcasing the unity and diversity of the African Diaspora in Washington.

Keep the Momentum: Saturday & Sunday Events

The celebration doesn't stop today! If you’re looking to support African diaspora resources and businesses through the weekend, mark your calendars for Saturday, June 20:

  • REVIVAL Market at Midtown Square (CD): Shop local from 12:00 PM – 5:00 PM with music provided by KEXP DJs. This is a prime spot to find unique goods from Black-owned businesses.
  • Melanated Market + Mixer at Communion: Located at the award-winning Communion Restaurant, this mixer is a great way to network with other leaders and creators. Free/Donation based.

Why We Celebrate Together

At WSCACL, we know that our most powerful tool is our ability to affect local policies. Juneteenth is a reminder that freedom is something we must actively protect and grow.

When you attend these events, you aren't just having fun: you are participating in a visible display of community strength. You are helping to:

  • Build generational wealth by supporting Black vendors.
  • Increase civic engagement by connecting with community organizations.
  • Strengthen the African community in Washington by showing that we are united.

Practical Tips for Your Day

To make sure your Juneteenth is stress-free, keep these tips in mind:

  • Transportation: Expect heavy traffic near Jimi Hendrix Park and the LeMay Museum. We highly recommend using Light Rail for Seattle events or carpooling.
  • Stay Hydrated: It’s a beautiful day! Bring a reusable water bottle.
  • Check Your Registration: Many of these events have booths for voter registration. If you’ve moved recently, take two minutes to update your status here.
  • Documentation: If you are a leader of a local organization, these events are great networking opportunities. Bring your business cards or have your LinkedIn QR code ready!

Takeaway: A Day of Action and Joy

Juneteenth 2026 is a time to honor our ancestors' resilience and celebrate the vibrant future we are building together in Washington. From the block parties in Seattle to the massive festivals in Tacoma, our community's voice is louder and stronger than ever.

Your Call to Action:

  1. Attend at least one event today! Your presence matters.
  2. Capture the moment: Take photos and videos of your favorite moments.
